To divorce in the state of Massachusetts, either one of the spouses must have lived continuously in Massachusetts for more than 1 year or the cause for divorce must have happened within the state. If either of these requirements are met, even Japanese couples married in Japan or couples married in another state will be able to divorce in the state. Documents are filed with the Probate and Family Court in the county the couples reside in.
